NPC Awarded Major Grant!
The North Park Central Neighborhood Group is excited to announce that the City of Phoenix Block Watch Grant Program has awarded NPC nearly $12,000 to increase safety in our neighborhood.
Funds awarded are in direct response to the needs expressed by residents in the 2021 Neighborhood Survey and will be used to install traffic mitigation (speed humps) on Amelia and Mitchell Drive, host the 2022 GAIN Event and more! We have included a summary of what was in the grant as well as the budget narrative if you are interested in checking that out.
To fulfill our obligation to the grant and to ourselves in betterment of our neighborhood, we will be reaching out to you for volunteer help. Please stay tuned on how you can get involved in these efforts.
Cheers,
The NPC Board
Grant Summary:
With 2020 bringing much change to the lives of NPC residents and many working from home, a recent survey concludes that neighbors are primarily concerned about the number of vehicles traveling through the neighborhood at high rates of speed, especially delivery vehicles. In addition, with poor lighting and few sidewalks throughout the neighborhood there is much concern for pedestrian safety.
To address resident’s concerns, the 2021 NPC Block Watch Grant is prioritized to address crime prevention goals that include improving safety through education and communication and preventing crime. These goals will be accomplished by focusing communication on safety and crime prevention, if possible, hosting the annual Gain event, and collaborating with the Streets Department to install traffic mitigation on Amelia from 7th Avenue to 11th Avenue and on Mitchell Drive from 7th Avenue to 11th Avenue. Both streets are used as cut-throughs to avoid either Indian School or Osborn Road.
Budget Narrative:
As indicated in the 2021 Neighborhood Survey, residents are concerned about the safety of pedestrians as North Park Central lacks sufficient street-lighting and sidewalks. With more and more people spending time at home, walking and running has become a primary means for exercise. To ensure the safety of these residents, including the risk of injury and personal crime, funds will used to purchase flashlights to be distributed to 140 households.
